February Family Activities

February half term is fast approaching, and as usual, there’s loads going on in Cornwall to entertain locals and visitors to the county! 

StoryFest at The Eden Project

Sat 11 – Sat 19 February 2017

Included in the usual Eden admission price, StoryFest is a children’s book festival taking place over half term. Daily shows by theatre company the Imagination Seekers are inspired by the works of Roald Dahl, there are interactive story sessions, a big book exchange, and hands-on craft workshops and games. Eden Escape: Alien Rescue

Selected dates from 14 January – 19 February 2017

Also on at The Eden Project this winter is a completely immersive experience, Eden’s exciting new live escape room game! Great fun for families with older children (for ages 8+), the game is for teams of three to five people. Your mission is to rescue a dying alien before the time runs out: teams have 45 minutes to work together and solve a variety of mind-boggling mysteries and challenges, save the alien species, and gain their way out of the locked room!

National Trust

There are some simply stunning National Trust properties and gardens in Cornwall, from Trelissick’s landscaped gardens and beautiful woodland to Trerice’s historic Elizabethan Manor House, there’s so much to explore and enjoy in the county. And many of the National Trust properties are putting on special events and activities over half term including a Children’s Garden Trail at Lanydrock. Terrific Tudors at Pendennis Castle

From 13 – 17 February you can experience Terrific Tudors at Pendennis Castle: step back in time and imagine how life was over 400 years ago in the impressive Tudor fort of Pendennis in Falmouth. Visit the English Heritage website for more information. 

Show Me Show Me at Hall for Cornwall

CBeebies’ favourite double act is coming to town!

Chris and Pui from popular children’s TV show ‘Show Me Show Me’ are bringing their stage show to Truro’s Hall for Cornwall on Monday 13th February with a morning show at 11 a.m. and a second show at 2 p.m.

All the favourite characters will be there including Incy Wincy, Old MacDonald and Twinkle, and of course the toys: Tom, Momo, Teddington, Stuffy and Miss Mouse. With songs, comedy sketches, and plenty of opportunity for audience participation, this is a family show to appeal to younger children.

Pup Season at The Cornish Seal Sanctuary

As the leading Seal Rescue Centre in Europe and the only one in Cornwall, the Cornish Seal Sanctuary take in and rehabilitate rescued seal pups over the winter. The team provide round-the-clock care to get the pups back to full health so they can be released back into the wild in the spring, and so February is the perfect time to visit the sanctuary, when the pools will be full of seal pups!
