Sustainability

We know you all love Cornwall and its environment, just like we do, so here’s what we do in support of local sustainability, and a few things that you can do to help!

Sustainability

Duchy Holidays – What we do

  • We promise that all our printed materials, like our brochure, use sustainably sourced paper; either recycled or certified FSC
  • We recycle our waste card and paper with a local collection
  • All our staff do mini beach cleans each time we step onto the beach
  • We can give you local bus timetables if you want to make use of public transport instead of the car
  • We use local suppliers whenever we can to support our local economy – from the ingredients of our welcome hampers, to the designers and printers that produce our brochure
  • We are members of PACE (Perranporth Against Climate Emergency) and sit on the working group looking to reduce waste in our oceans
  • We advise our guests on how to have a more eco holiday, to help support our beautiful surroundings
  • Work with local businesses to promote hire over buying beach gear to help minimise plastic waste
  • Our waste collection contractor provides a zero-waste service, where ALL rubbish collected is recycled. Standard recyclables are recycled as normal, whilst other waste creates steam energy that turns turbines, producing energy to power 21,000 Cornish homes every day. Even the ash from the burning is used to create a base aggregate for new roads.

Visitors – What you can do

  • Please follow your waste information in your property folder and recycle as much as you can
  • Why not try the bus while you’re here instead of taking the car out every day? Pop in to our office and pick up a bus timetable. Regular services to Newquay and Truro. Don’t worry we will help you decipher the timetables!
  • Use our local businesses! We have a great butchers here in Perranporth, a greengrocer and a bakery; we can tell you where to find them. Plus a refill store, where you can top up on all kinds of essentials and treats, without the plastic
  • Have you turned off all the lights, radios etc when you head out for the day? If you’re planning a picnic or BBQ out remember to take a bin bag to take your rubbish home.
  • Bringing a four-legged friend? There are plenty of dog waste bins in Perranporth village and by the beach so make sure you scoop the poop!
  • Enjoy your ice cream in a cone, instead of a plastic tub!
  • Use the Beach Toy Library (outside All You Can Eco on the High Street) and borrow beach toys instead of buying new plastic ones
  • If you have a used or broken bodyboard you don’t wish to take home, pop it in the Bodyboard Recycle Bin over by the bridge to the beach. The bodyboards are stripped and recycled

Owners – What you can do

  • Are there all the correct recycling bins at your property? Make it easy for your guests
  • Have you installed energy saving lightbulbs? These are an easy win and they save you money too!
  • If you have a garden a water butt will help conserve water when it’s needed in the summer to keep your lawn luscious
