An 18th century traditional Cornish cottage in the heart of the picturesque village of St Agnes, Heritage Cottage is full of charm and history, and part of the delightful terrace of Victorian cottages called Stippy Stappy, built descending down into the valley which runs towards the beach. This attractive Grade II listed property is located in an area recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and was originally the home of seafarers and a Captain (who was lost at sea in the last century). The Captain's memorial is inscribed along with his wife's in the village cemetery.
Open the front gate and enter into a small courtyard with table and two seats and then walk through the front door into this lovely timeless home. Cosy and traditional yet light and bright, the cottage is beautifully furnished and many original features have been retained.
The living room is furnished with a sofa, two armchairs, coffee table, TV and DVD player, and a folding gateleg table with two dining chairs. The original window seat by the sash windows is a lovely place to sit with a coffee and a book, and a large fireplace with wood burner ensures the cottage is cosy all year round.
Two steps lead up into the kitchen, tastefully decorated and fitted with deep double butler sink, tiled floor, and views into the courtyard garden from the sash window. The kitchen has an electric oven and hob, microwave, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, and dining table with four chairs. (Additional folding chairs and a highchair are available).
Through the kitchen and up a further two steps, the washing machine can be found in a utility area which leads onto a shower room with shower cubicle, WC and basin. The double back doors open out to the small enclosed private courtyard with a picnic table from which to enjoy a peaceful evening drink after a busy day sightseeing!
Upstairs, three bedrooms sleep six. The master bedroom is furnished with double bed (4'6?), bedroom furniture and a wonderfully relaxing en-suite where a gorgeous slipper roll-top bath provides more than a touch of luxury. Bedrooms two and three both have exposed wooden floorboards, sash windows, and deep window sills. Bedroom two also has a double bed (4'6?), and bedroom three bunk beds (3' each). A travel cot is available upon request.
The cottage is heated via night storage heaters and the sitting room wood burner. There is no designated parking however guests can unload luggage at the top of Stippy Stappy and walk down the short slope to the cottage. On-road parking can then be found nearby, or in the village car park with honesty box, ten minutes' walk away. Please be aware that this is a traditional cottage, and much of its charm is in the original features which include low ceilings, some uneven steps, and a steep staircase. Pets are not allowed at this property.
St Agnes is a beautiful village with Stippy Stappy being one of the focal points of historical interest. The village has a thriving community, artisan shops, independent galleries, fantastic restaurants and cafes, and the lovely sheltered beach of Trevaunance Cove. Great for surfers and for families, the beach is only five minutes' walk from Heritage Cottage, with the nearest pub a two-minute stroll down the hill to Peterville, or a two-minute walk up the hill to Churchtown for all the local village amenities.
The Stippy Stappy row of houses have featured in Winston Graham's Poldark novels, and some of the filming of the Poldark TV series has taken place at nearby Chapel Porth with its iconic engine house, and at the sandy beach of Holywell Bay. The cathedral city of Truro and stunning beaches of Newquay are both less than ten miles away and a variety of Cornwall's best tourist attractions and places of interest can all be found within a short drive, including the Eden Project, National Trust properties and gardens, St Ives, Padstow and Falmouth, making Heritage Cottage an ideal base from which to explore this captivating county.
